Isn't it a great day today????? Being active and positive are an extremely important part of my total well being. I have lost weight and inches AND I feel wonderful! My favorite type of exercise is swimming or even aqua aerobics... but it is not always easy to get out of bed to swim laps at 6am in the winter! (even in Southern California!!!) So I have added belly dancing to my regime!!! And of course, there is always the old standby: walking!!! I am a regular platelet donor so I am able to track some of my statistics on a regular basis. I have normally/naturally low blood pressure and low cholesterol. However, when I am not physically active on a regular basis, I have noticed that my resting heart rate is higher than I would like... AND I notice that my total cholesterol can elevate up to 45 points. It is still within normal or acceptable levels... but I know that I can keep these rates or levels at the lower end by regular exercise. In the long run, I know this will be beneficial for me as I age... IF I ever let myself "grow-up"! hahaha Thanks for the challenge and GO ST MARY STARS in Oceanside, CA!!! For the past ten years, cardiovascular exercise has been a challenge. I have asthma and have had high blood pressure. I'm afraid after gaining 85 pounds in the past 5 years, cardio is the best option I have to lose that weight. The Governor's Challenge renewed my commitment to stay healthy. I shared the opportunity with my students, and now we touch base everyday on how we are doing in our quest for fitness. After slowly walking through the first three weeks of the challenge, I built enough courage to join the track team long distance running team. At my age, I don't expect to run at their pace, but at least I can make it through their rigorous 35-minute warm-ups without collapsing! Not only do my students and I have something new to talk about, but we are all helping each become healthier. It feels great! My goal is to lose 75 pounds and run a marathon by April 2010. Training doesn't stop when the Governor's Challenge is over, the challenge has just begun. Thanks for the incentive! And to my students, thank you all for your inspiration! Mlle.
