Marin nonprofit Trips for Kids wins gold medal award

San Rafael nonprofit Trips for Kids was awarded a gold medal this week as part of the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards.

The 20-year-old program, which provides mountain bike trips for deserving youth, was selected from more than 700 nominees. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger presented the award at a Sacramento ceremony in advance of a $10,000 check for the program.

The fourth annual awards program was established as part of the nonprofit council's effort to promote physical activity for all Californians with an emphasis on children.
