The 'Fit, Not Fat' award

A rose to Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad for winning a state physical fitness award.

The school was recognized by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for successfully completing the Governor's Challenge, which called for students to be active 30 to 60 minutes a day at least three days a week for a month.

In total, 1,165 schools competed in the challenge this year. The council selected 11 of those campuses as regional winners. The school will get $6,000 for exercise equipment.
