Principal wins award from fitness council

LEMON GROVE: The California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports chose Rick Oser, principal of the Lemon Grove School District's Golden Avenue Elementary, as Principal of the Year for 2009.

The council said Oser used his creativity and perseverance to develop a program that focuses on students' physical wellness, healthy lifestyles and access to health care. They also pointed to academic improvements at the school.

Oser will get a check for $10,000.

The council is a “nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting physical activity for all Californians, with an emphasis on children and youth,” according to its Web site.Michele Clock
