Fresno school will get fitness center

A Fresno school — and seven other California schools — will each get a “Live Positively” fitness center funded by the Coca-Cola Company.

The schools won’t be announced until September, but the districts that will receive the $100,000 fitness centers were chosen because of high participation in the 2010 Governor’s Fitness Challenge. Two centers will be in Los Angeles, and one each in Orange, Stanislaus, San Bernardino, Sacramento, Coachella Valley-area and Fresno.

The selected districts have the most students signed up for the fitness challenge — which ends May 31.

The more than 1.3 million California students signed up in the statewide fitness challenge is more than similar efforts in other states.
