Sample Letter to Principal

Dear Principal _____________________,

I am requesting that you select a Governor's Challenge Coordinator for our school so that our students and faculty can begin earning rewards in the 2008 Governor's Challenge Competition.

Background: The Governor's Challenge Competition is a contest among all K-12 schools in the state to help get California students healthy and fit. The Governor's Challenge is to be active 30-60 minutes a day at least 3 days a week for 4 weeks. The schools with the highest percentage of students completing the Governor's Challenge and the schools with the most students completing the Governors Challenge in each of 11 regions in California will be considered for regional awards of $5,000 in physical activity equipment and the competition's grand prize, a brand new fitness center valued at $100,000. Every student who completes the Governor's Challenge gets a Certificate of Completion signed by the Governor and the first 75,000 completers will receive an official patch of the Governor's Council seal.

Last year more than 69,000 students from over 1,200 schools participated in the competition and the grand prize winner was Marvin Elementary School in Los Angeles. This year, in order for our students to be eligible to receive rewards and for our school to be eligible to win an award, we need to register a Governor's Challenge Coordinator on the Council's website.
