BRONZE MEDALIST

The East Oakland Youth Development Center(EOYDC) has consistenly produced scholar athletes who have become engaged public servants and professional athletes. Our wilingness to model the behavior, language and comportment that is required to be successful is key. We commit ourselves to the comprehensive development of the student athlete. In addition to physical development, we promote the principles of character development within the framework of an abiding and broadened commitement to community.EOYDC's list of celebrity alumni includes professional athletes in basketball ,track and field and football.Leon Powe, power forward and center for Boston Celtics, Brian Shaw, Asst Coach LA Lakers,Kirk Morrison, linebacker for Oakland Raiders,2008 Nick Mazur, phd candidate and oakland public school track coach, Matt Bogard,from wild child to scholar athlete at Lincoln Memorial University: Paul Marigney, first scholarship recipient out of Castlemont High School now a guard for Trankwalder team in Italy, 2008cAshton Purvis, High school national leader in 200 meter dash;2007 KeNyia Richardson Indoor and Outdoor Triple Jump All American. We have also created the Home Alone Cooking Series to inform and educate on the fundamentals for healthy living seeking to close the gap for obesity.For decades we have used sports to teach young people how to set goals and achieve them. Inside the killer corridor we mentor and counsel the young people that come into the center- this is the difference that our programs are making..time spent beyond the work and beyond the program hours and its working.

The Santa Barbara Diabetes Resource Center has been an amazing organization. We met last summer to discuss childhood obesity and health in poverty stricken areas. One year later, our school has been completely transformed.
