GOLD MEDALIST

Christine Berni-Ramos, nationally board certified physical education teacher at the Elizabeth Learning Center, a K-12 school in Cudahy, has been selected as a finalist for Teacher of the Year for going above and beyond the call of duty to attract a state of the art fitness center for the school's high school students, a Nike 3x3 soccer program that engages her middle schools students to continually stay active, and a Ready, Set, Gold program in which 3 Olympians visited the school and motivated elementary, middle and high school students to be active. One of the innovative practices she has pioneered is having her upper grade students work with elementary students to provide physical activity that is age appropriate and standards based.

The F.R.E.S.H. Program is grant-funded by Kaiser Hospital at $30,000 per year. It focuses on active living and healthy eating in the young child.
