Maggie Yu-Dipasquale, first grade classroom teacher at Allesandro Elementary in Silver Lake, has been selected as a finalist for Teacher of the Year for taking the initiative with her school principal to implement a school-wide P.E. program. Mrs. Yu-Dipasquale’s passion for educating kids about the importance of physical activity is infectious and contributed to her school’s selection out of a pool of 115 Los Angeles Unified schools to host the NikeGo Celebration Ceremony this May. Mrs. Yu-Dipasquale is also responsible for leading a physical education program that pairs motivating music with great energy to engage students in physical activity every morning.

BRONZE MEDALIST Jay Marden, Principal of Carmel River School, has been selected as a finalist for Principal of the Year in part for organizing the “Run for Matt Run-a-Thon” to help Carmel River students deal with the grief of losing fellow 4th grader Matt Haines who died unexpectedly in March.
